Also, if you configure the AI on a character to open locks and they don't have the skill, they may attempt to bash things open.

When in doubt about a LOT of things, right click and HOLD. It's not an instantaneous menu pop up when you right click. It's a slightly delayed pop up. Patience is a good thing. :) Add me as your friend so we can earn a BADGE!
